A Flurry of Leaves is in two parts, relating two days : Wednesday 29th and Friday 13th.
Wednesday 29th is the day Monique ends her life. Throughout the day, she reviews her past from her carefree chidhood and student days to marriage and middle age, finally succumbing to despair. The day is divided into the canonical hours of the monastic day which gives a timeless and universal dimension to her distress, with its underlying questions of faith.
In Friday 13th, we learn who wrote the account of Wednesday 29th but this day also ends in tragedy, amidst the Paris attacks of 13th November 2015.
The story is based on real events, but it is written as a work of pure fiction, inspired by the people and places I have known in the course of my life.
